1972 contest 31 rudder post

anyone every work on their rudder post for older contest....I've never seen a design like this. Doesn't seem to be a stuffing box design  or any grease fittings. Mine has a leak when I'm underway and I can't figure out how to tighten it. Hauling boat soon and I'm looking for advice on how to go about it....is there packing or what?

Capt.,

I have a 31 as well and there is a supposed grease point, but I have yet to find (and yet to grease).  I have a Conyplex "Hints" document and #6 (steering) refers to the 31's.  I can email it to you if you PM me.

Good luck,
Gerard

Not sure if this will help (or even work!) but this link will hopefully show you the rudder shaft on mine:
