Howto set up the double bed in contest 28
« on: 23 June, 2011, 00:39:05 »
Hello forum,

In my recently aquired Contest 28, there seems to be a possibility to make a double bed out of the port side bench, but I can not see how to support the pull-out part properly. It seems that the table may fit as legs, but it is not stable enough. Does anyone have any clues?

Port side bench and table.

Matress removed

Table dismantled

A possible solution to support the pull-out part of the bench.

Bench pulled out fully, supported by the table. Problem is that the table wants to fold further in, which may result in a damaged table.

I think you would need an extra set of table-legs which are much shorter than the normal ones. This makes it possible to lower the tabel at the exact hight of the bed. The bench should not be pulled out that far (you will not use the twin bed in full sea)
I have (contest 29) these shorter table legs and a piece of plywood as well that fits between the table and the bed (because the tabel is not as long as the bed. You should look for these items as well.
In that way, the table and this piece of plywood forms the second part of the twin bed.
I hope it is clear enough for you. If not I could make some photo's next weekend.
kind regards
Pieter

Thank you very much Pieter,

I suppose I will have to make something myself. Are the short legs standing in the same hole as the long legs? This must mean that all the weight is on one side of the legs only? Some pictures of the original shorter legs and plywood would be very interesting to see. If it is convenient for you.

So, here is the slide show:
This would be the way to sleep when at sea (one person at a time):

To set up a twin bed, I use these short bed legs:

and this ply wood "table":

Put the short legs at the place of the nromal long legs:

Put on the table and put the little table next to the normal table:

You will need some additional mattresses.
I hope this is clear enough.

Thanks you Pieter,

It was very interesting to see your solution, but I think I will have to do some inventing on my own, since both the table and its position is slightly different on the 28. To use the table like you do, I would have to make a second set of holes in the floor, and i am not sure that is the best solution!?

To the drawing table...

Dear Aksel,
Look at your first 3 pictures and then number 4.
You will see that the position of the metal tablestands have changed
so that the half circle now point in the wrong direction.
I don't know why this happened but someone created the very problem
you're writing about problem by that.
Normaly, when you have removed the table, you can pull out the bed
and let it rest on these little 'bedsupports'. The table itself can be put aside
orde indeed be left under the double bed - as you did. But the table
itself will not support the bed.
I hope this will make it clear.
