Double bed in C 31HT possible
« on: 07 August, 2011, 21:54:56 »
Hi,

I own a C 31HT and use it in the second season now. I like it very much and discover more and more features. There is one thing however I am pusseled about.
The table in the salon can be lowered to the same level as the starbord sofa. It seens that it could be converted to a double bed. Is this right?

Best wishes

Peter

@ Peter
I dont know if its the original plan.
My C31ht version has a sofa what you can pull out to a bed and push back to a sofa on starboard and portside of the boat.
The table stays in position .
Maybe is my version of the C31 ht a custom build option , I dont know?

Hi Peter,

As far as I know it is possible to convert the sofa to a double bed, that option is standard on almost all models < 36 ft and dates back to at least 1968. Every model had it's own way to do it but one of the main requirements is the tabletop.
But are you sure that it's the starbord sofa, in almost all the boats it's the port sofa which is converted to a double. Like Remco said you can extend them and if you lower the table it should joint to form the bed.

I think it's by using both the portside and the starboard sofa. Broaden both sofa's, lower the table and with an extra cushion one can sleap in the width direction, so 90 degrees turned to the sofa's. The extra cussion of mine lays normally in the stern bed (dog's cage? ;-), at my boat visitors/couples sleep split up, each on a sofa. This makes it possible for all of us to pass from the forecabin and restroom to the kitchenside and outside.

Hi,

thanks for your answers. In fact it must be the starboard sofa since it is L-shaped on the C31HT.
I became suspicious because the lowest table position is in the same hight as the sofa. There is however a gap (20cm) between the table head and the "L-part" of the sofa. But there are nodges on the table and the sofa, so there is probably a plank or something to put in there.

Does anybody have an idea whom to ask regarding dimensions of the matrass?

How do you stop the sofas from sliding when sailing or sitting on them? Should there be a lock somewhere that mine is missing?

Andy, have a look below the cushions. There should be a hole though the upper- and lower part of the sofa. Stick a bolth in it to prevent the sofa from sliding.
