1973 Contest 31 mast details
« on: 24 August, 2012, 10:48:16 »
Does anyone have the details of the mast that would have been fitted to a 1973 built (hull no 86). The main information I need to the length of the mast. The C31 I looked at potentially needs a new mast and I'm looking to get a cost of doing this.

Thanks in advance.
Andy

I just had a look at some original Conyplex data but the C31 mk1 is missing in the list.  However I don't think that the dimensions are that critical, I guess the rigging and spar will be replaced as well? The mastlength of the shallow-keel C31HT is 11,70m and the spar is 3,20m. That should be exact enough to get a good estimate.

Funny detail: I noticed that the mast of the C31HT is longer than that of the C33. I guess my rigging is a bit undersized.

Many thanks for the reponse. The spar and running rigging are both ok so will not be replaced. I will however be replacing all the standing rigging and also the chainplates for the upper and lower shrouds and I will be adding better backing pads behind these. The big issues is that there seems to be a lot corrosion on a mast that has already been painted. The rest of the boat however is not too bad considering that she is nearly 40 years old!

Jep, the C31 by Uus van Essen is a very sturdy boat and will probably even be sailed by your childrens children  :D   I guess you had a good contact with Niels?

I have indeed have very useful contact with Niels. Many thanks for putting us in contact.

I'm hoping that this mast issue doensn't stop the sale from going ahead. They seem like great boats and I'm looking forward to putting some miles under her keel.

Mast length of the first type 31 is exactly the same as the mast length of the 29 mk2.
It is 10,60 m as seen on the list.
Ik know that because we have had neighbours in the marina with a 31. The boats were exactly as high.
Contest zeiler sinds 1989!
